Artist Statement

I strive to design and fabricate jewelry that is well made, comfortable and will have personal connection for its wearer. I draw inspiration for my work from nature and how our lives are affected by the natural world. Growing up in China has influenced my aesthetic and process in many ways. I found my love for jewelry in my early teens and was fascinated by all the possibilities to create beautiful things. I touched by the traditional pattern and old crafts using on old ancient Chinese head wear which created by old generation. I was shocked by the complicated and delicate craftsmanship, fine silver, carved, and stone setting. This enable me to feel the charm of traditional Chinese culture, which effect mine creation and tension in the period of being of a professional jeweler. I’m interested in geometric shape and organic forms, I preference the strong sense of form, concise personalized, it gives audience strong contrast of organic form and geometric shapes. The elements are clean and simple; the emphasis is on composition.

I have concentrated and on computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing. I enjoy work with CAD especially fell the power from new technology, which improved the efficiency, optimize, and standardize my design. Therefore, the most of my projects were created by CAD, what appearance could make up for the disadvantage of traditional manufacturing industry; as it saves a lot of time. I focused on create series of double pin stem with CAD. Geometric perspective black & white double ended  pin stem is my first work of this series; it is consisted of rectangular shape and lines which using color contrast to express the perspective. I realized that I interested in visual impact and I need to create an object that truly utilization of computer. I am always experimenting with new methods. In order to use computer more realized my work, I start exploring the movement of shapes with ball bearing on the back. In developing my object, I use multiple lines designed and created pattern for my double pin on each side. The ball bearing enable the pattern spinning, makes the movement happened. I’m focusing on explore the movement, and will create more objects that can interpreted this idea better.
